Native Arts and Culture of Teewakącąk: Ho-Chunk Dance
Friday, September 19
6-7 p.m.
Join the Friends of Devil's Lake and the Little Eagle Arts Foundation for an event that embraces the arts and culture of the Tee Wákąčąk & the Ho-Chunk people.
Elliott Funmaker, Sr. (Ho-Chunk) and his group will provide a family-friendly cultural performance featuring the music and dance of the Ho-Chunk Nation. Elliott will also explain the symbolism and meaning of objects such as the drum and regalia worn by each dancer. Join us for this authentic cultural arts presentation that showcases the original inhabitants of the area including Tee Wákąčąk (Ho-Chunk place name meaning Sacred Lake) renamed to Devil’s Lake. This program was made possible by an Incentive Grant from the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks and funding provided by the Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park and the Little Eagle Arts Foundation.
