GIS Intern
We are looking for a student who has the desire and eagerness to learn and assist with GIS projects in Sauk County. This is an amazing opportunity for students to get hands on learning experience and the chance to work alongside our team with research and organization of specialist projects.
The purpose of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern is to assist in the creation and maintenance of land records information utilized by a variety of departments within Sauk County. This position provides the opportunity to assist in GIS data development, data conversion, data maintenance, GPS data collection, spatial analysis, web map creation and cartographic map production. The intern will have an opportunity to explore the latest ESRI technology as it relates to land records.
**This internship will be for summer 2025 May - August.
Essential Duties
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of GIS data utilizing the latest ESRI technology
- Prepare GIS data and cartographic layouts for customers
- Assist with field collection projects utilizing Field Maps
- Assist with GIS functions utilizing spatial analysis
- Assist with Land Resources and Environment projects
- Assist the public with map inquiries
- Utilize GIS and Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment
- Assist in the creation of various GIS Web Applications and Dashboards
- Assist with data model development and testing
- And other duties as assigned
Minimum Training and Education
Required:
Individual currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program for Geography, Cartography, Computer Science, or another related field
Licenses/Certifications:
Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
Preferred:
Students who have already completed one or two degree related classes
Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
