TOM WOPAT to perform at the AL RINGLING THEATRE
Tom Wopat, the Lodi native who gained television fame on “The Dukes of Hazzard” as well as a Tony Award nomination for his work in the musical “Annie Get Your Gun,” will return to the Al. Ringling Theatre for a concert on July 25.
His best-known stage role is that of Frank Butler in “Annie Get Your Gun.” Butler, along with Annie Oakley, performed as sharpshooters in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, a modern version of which will be performed at Circus World on July 26-27.
Musically, Wopat applies his far-ranging interpretive skills to discovering new, intriguing musical twists in such Great American Songbook classics as “The Good Life,” “The Folks Who Live on The Hill,” “Call Me,” “Born To Be Blue,” and “I Won’t Dance.”
Given the breadth of his musical skills, he has adapted easily to different musical styles, performing superbly on early, country-tinged recordings while crafting some of his own songwriting along the way.
With his latest album I’ve Got Your Number, Tom’s musical expedition has traveled into even more colorful territory. Backed by a thirty-piece orchestra, he fulfills his desire to focus on what he describes as the “orchestra/big band hybrid of the ‘60s and ‘70s.”
