Exploring Missouri's Current River Guided by Aldo Leopold's Journals
Ninety years ago in November 1926 Aldo Leopold and his two brothers made a memorable 10-day float trip down Missouri's Current River. That trip led to the purchase of Aldo's riverside "shanty" that he visited annually for quail hunting (yes, before acquiring the famous "shack" he had the less well-known "shanty"). Guided by Leopold's journals, Leopold Senior Fellow Stan Temple retraced the 1926 float trip and after much detective work found the site of Leopold's long-forgotten "shanty."
