ABC's of Alzheimer's and Dementia
This two-part education series is geared toward families of persons with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, and it is a perfect starting point for gaining valuable insight by enhancing your understanding of the disease, learning how it affects your loved one and how to effectively deal with it day-to-day. Session One features Kim Peterson, M.D., a nationally known expert on the subject, and will focus on medical aspects of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Dr. Petersen will explain the various types of dementia, including symptoms, diagnosis, disease progression, and treatment options, in language we can all understand. Session Two focuses on the experience of dementia and how it affects a person's functioning; how to best help the person maintain function and quality of life; and resources and support available to help. Carol Olson, who has more than a decade of experience with the Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin will present this session.
